TAIWAN

October 2019 - Johnny and Sandra's wedding in Taipei

An excellent, short visit to wonderful Taiwan... Our friends Johnny and Sandra got married and the wedding was fabulous, of course. The best men had fun exploring Taipei whenever we were off duty. I found Taiwan to be like a cross between China and Japan in a fun way. But, can I count it as a country on my list? The Chinese would say NO, but what's in a number? Taiwan is a unique nation with friendly people, great food, and a pretty good government. Our friends there run this excellent American Eagle English School, by the way. Congratulations J+S!! Thanks for inviting me.

Regarding the conflict with China, this is a great example of world politics, where economic interests take priority over everything else. The USA defends Taiwan for economic reasons, but won't dare recognize Taiwan as an independent country because China could retaliate economically. The status quo is uniquely absurd, but this shbouldn't stop you from visiting here as a tourist!
